Local MP joins national effort to put care right2.54.21pm GMT Tue 4th Dec 2007 Annette Brooke MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole today joined forces with the Alzheimer's Society to launch a major campaign to put care right in care homes. The partnership was forged today as the Alzheimer's Society released a report revealing huge differences in the quality of care between homes across the country. Home from Home, published today (27 November), found that staff urgently need more support and training. The Alzheimer's Society is calling for training to be made mandatory as two thirds of people in care homes have dementia. Annette Brooke MP said: 'We need to work as a community to stop poor dementia care. That is why I am joining forces with the Alzheimer's Society to put care right in care homes in our community. 'I want to see all staff in Mid Dorset and North Poole care homes get more training in dementia care and more support and recognition for the difficult job they do, however the cost implications for local social services would of course have to be carefully considered. I'll also be working with the Alzheimer's Society to raise awareness of good quality dementia care and how it can be achieved.' John Noyes from the Alzheimer's Society said: 'We are delighted to have the support of Annette Brooke MP. The time to change is now and by working as a community we can put care right. ' To find out more about 'Putting Care Right' and how you can help contact the BRANCH of the Alzheimer's Society or visit www.alzheimers.org.uk.
