Wareham MP Calls for Purbeck Council Tax To Be Spent In Purbeck

12.00.00am GMT Thu 27th Jan 2005

The MP for Wareham, Annette Brooke, who attended Tuesday's Purbeck District Council meeting as an observer, has written to the Deputy Prime Minister regarding the use of Council Tax receipts on second homes in Purbeck.

While the Isle of Purbeck has the greatest number of second homes in Dorset, the income generated for the area from the council tax paid on these homes is not being spent exclusively in the area, nor being reinvested in affordable housing or for services in the area.

Conservative Purbeck District Council councillors accepted that the money was being used by Dorset County Council to keep down Council Tax across the county, and to support front line services, and not spent locally.
